Winter isn’t fun as a grownup

It’s really funny how your perspective about where you live can change so quickly.

For many years of my life I thought that I was blessed to live in a climate where we experience all four seasons of the year.

We definitely had a brutal cold season as well as a swelteringly hot warm season. You could count on the seasons changing and keeping you aware of the months passing. Plus, as a kid I was actually excited for the more difficult season news, like the frigid winter. At the time, it was enjoyable when there was a massive snowfall. The cold air didn’t bother me very much because I was bundled up in my snowsuit and capable of playing outdoors for hours. Building igloos, having snowball fights, and playing in the winter wonderland was a lot of wholesome goodness. As an adult, I feel completely differently about this climate and our seasonal Winters. There’s nothing less pleasant than the frigid cold air temperatures, snow, and ice. Well, nothing less pleasant except for the energy bills. When you are the homeowner and a difficult climate such as this one, you will end up with extremely high-energy expenses all season long. There’s no way to survive out here without operating your central heating system day in and day out. You will literally die of hypothermia if you don’t have advanced indoor air temperature control throughout the winter. Since I own an inefficient forced air furnace, this means I shell a lot of my money out to the energy company each month. The older I get, the more I hate it here and I have to question my naive younger self.
