It’s easy sometimes to let savings get in the way of value.
This is something that I learned from my parents as I was coming up.
We were sort of at the lower end of middle class but, we never went without anything. Our home was modest but nice and wonderfully HVAC controlled. My parents both worked to provide my sister and I with the things we needed. When it came to big purchases, my parents went for quality of saving a few bucks every time. This played out very well for them as those items lasted a long time and worked well. I can remember when my wife and I bought our first house. We negotiated with the owner over several things. One of those sticking points was the HVAC. It was old and simply out of date. But the former owner was not about to pay for a new HVAC that he wasn’t getting to use. This ended up being a good thing for us. We were able to negotiate the price down significantly with that in mind. So, this allowed us to then install a state of the art HVAC system. We could have gone cheaper but we wanted the value of a great heating & cooling system. Recently, I was again faced with a savings over value decision concerning the HVAC. There was an HVAC repair needed to keep our HVAC in its best form. It was an expensive repair. A friend suggested a person who was not a licensed HVAC tech to do the job for nearly half the price. Honestly, it wasn’t really much of a decision really. I would love for the HVAC repair to be much less expensive. But, the value of professional HVAC repair is far more important.
