I find it really curious that I will completely zone right on out of a conversation.
If something doesn’t hold my interest, I tend to just check out in my head.
I don’t want to be rude but that is just the way I’m built. It puzzles me to this day as to why I am like this. My friends often think that I simply can’t pay attention to anything. Well, that is really a separate issue. My zoning out of boring conversations have to do with lack of interest and not attention span. In fact, I tend to be pretty consistent about noting the details that are going on around me. The situations with the HVAC last week is a great example. The summer heat has arrived full force and it seems as though the HVAC is running nearly all the time. I do my best to keep it in check. We have a smart HVAC thermostat that helps me keep the HVAC setting no more than 15 degrees cooler than outside during peak heat hours. I also pay attention to making sure the shades are pulled to keep out the direct sun to mitigate that heat. However, I noticed a few weeks ago that I was hearing a different sound coming from the HVAC than I had heard before. It was sort of a high pitched sound. And, there was a sort of metal on metal aspect to it. Not wanting to take any chances, I called the HVAC people. Fortunately for me, there were some worn bearings that were easily replaced. This saved me a big breakdown cost. See, I pay attention.
