It was massive
When I moved into this house about a month-and-a-half ago now, everything seemed perfect. Usually when I’m moving I throw all my stuff into a room and leave it in boxes for years. But this time, I did everything right. I put in a lot of work getting my backyard and my bedroom in tip-top shape as I moved more items inside. I figured, those are the two places I intended to spend the most time, so those are the places where I should invest my effort right out of the gate. I’m really glad that I took the time to spruce up my space, because I’m spending a lot of time here now. Thanks to the covid-19 virus, I’ve been at home for weeks. And I started wondering during this time if I simply never noticed my backyard slowly infiltrating my bedroom before. I saw for the first time that there were tiny ants marching all over my bedroom. I went on a massive search, trying to determine where the ants were coming from before I found the culprit. I traced the line of soldiers back to my air vent. After that, I popped the air vent off the wall and flashed a light inside. I expected to see ductwork with a couple of ants marching back and forth, but instead I found an ant hill sitting squarely inside my air ducts. It was massive. The bugs were frantically running through the ductwork at this point, and I started getting grossed out. But that was nothing – soon, they were crawling through every air vent in the house trying to escape the monster that discovered them. I’m calling an HVAC right now to clean my air ducts and replace the air filter, but an exterminator might be more appropriate.
