When my girlfriend told me she was pregnant, I was feeling all kinds of things.
At first I did not know what to feel.
I felt happy of course. But soon I also knew that it meant I would have to make some changes in our lives. My first thoughts were about our house. We have been lucky because we live in a house that my grandmother left to me. That means we have not needed to pay rent for the last few years. But the house is old and it needs a lot of upgrades. I knew that one of the main issues was how cold the old house can get, so one of the first things I did is call in an HVAC contractor, so that we could learn about our current system and what upgrades or changes might be best for a house with a baby. The guy was nice, but he also told me what I was afraid of, which was that we would be best off installing a new central heating system, as the current was was not effective and wasted a lot of money and energy. The place does get really cold in the winter, so I knew the guy was not lying to me. The problem is that this will not be cheap. At the same time, I have almost a year for us to save up some money, and my dad said that he would lend me some money to upgrade the heater too, so I am not worried. I am already planning the upgrades together with the same HVAC provider. At the moment we think a hydronic heating system would be best for the build of the house we are in.
