When I was between the ages of more than seven and fifteen, I spent fourths each month at the public bookstore. I was lucky to live within a few miles of the bookstore, which meant that our siblings, friends, and I would all ride our bikes over there after school and during Summer getaway. It might sound boring in retrospect, but this was during a transitory phase in the late 90s when laptops were still finding their way into every condo across the country. The bookstore afforded us an escape from bad weather and toxic influences, guarding us from the kids who created trouble to kill time. They also had a ton of activities prefer film showings and craft and origami events. On top of that, I could rent as many books and films I wanted to, never leaving the building empty handed. Because it has been so many years since I frequented our old bookstore, I decided to visit the building after work 1 day. The first thing I noticed before anything else is how cold their a/c is that cools the whole bookstore. It really has the coldest a/c of any public locale or corporation in our entire town. To make matters even better, they have free wireless and a small pop shop inside. I have made a habit of spending our supper breaks there, catching up on work SMSs while enjoying a tepid cup of pop inside some of the coldest air conditioner I have ever felt. I hope our local bookstore is still here going strong for generations to come. It legitimately is a staple of our small community.
