Moving to the South meant making some serious changes to the way we did things.
We have lived in our new location for just over a year now and we are still learning what it takes to keep things clean and clear in our house.
We bought a ranch style house in the suburbs and figured we could slowly make cosmetic changes over time. All that changed when the HVAC system gave out and we experienced the worst hot humid weather we could have imagined. The expense of replacing it was far too much for us to handle after closing on the house so we did the best we could to weather the situation and we did that for three months. During that time we lost some of our precious family photos, had to redo the walls that had wallpaper on them and even replace some of our furniture because the moisture ruined them. It seemed like everything we touched was damp all the time and even the woodwork started to show signs of this. We had a bad mold problem in the bathrooms too that no amount of cleaned kept at bay. In the end we wound up financing the new air conditioning unit and installation. Where we lived before the summers got warm but we never experienced that levels of humidity that are present in the South. A word of caution for anyone who is considering moving to a warm humid climate, make sure that the HVAC system in the house or apartment you are going to be living in is in good working condition.
