Grandpa doesn’t need a/c

It started circulating the air with a gentle breeze.

It was a absolutely tepid Summer day, I went to see my Grandpa. I was dripping sweat from the excessive heat as I tentatively made my way to his front door. Anticipation filled the air as I heard that dear old Grandpa possessed a secret weapon against the heat wave, an a/c. Stepping inside his house, I found Grandpa comfortably settled in his cherished rocking chair, wielding a handheld fan. “Grandpa, why on earth haven’t you turned on the a/c? It’s unbelievably tepid in here, not to mention outside!” My voice was filled with concern. In response, he chuckled and brushed off the idea of expensive cooling systems. Before I could ask him why, he jumped up from his chair, grin widening, and flung open every window in the room. As the breeze blew through, I could hear the cheerful chirping of parakeets and the giggling of neighborhood children. The overwhelming heat that had bothered me dissipated, and before long, Grandpa yanked the chain, setting the ceiling fan in motion. It started circulating the air with a gentle breeze. Despite knowing that Grandpa owned a sophisticated a/c unit, he insisted that such contraptions were unnecessary… Grandpa stood gracefully in the center of the room, his arm outstretched, relishing the cool breeze from the fan and refreshing airflow through the open windows. Intrigued, I settled down on the couch, embracing the moment! Periodically you just have to appreciate the moment and realize that the little things can make anyone blissful. This is one of those moments. A memory, I have cherished for many years.
