My friend has been testing products for as long as I can remember.
At first, I wasn’t keen enough to realize he always has new gadgets like electronics and phones.
One day when he showed up with a phone I hadn’t seen around, I inquired about it, and that is when I learned about product testing. So, I asked him to put in a good word for me, but it wasn’t that straightforward. Instead, he shared a link where I got such jobs. I proceeded to make my application and waited. It took about a month to get something meaningful; this was for testing heating equipment. I had to go to the premises of the heating dealership, fill in a registration form and give my background use of any heating device. It was obvious I did not have any prior knowledge of how to perform heating repair, heating maintenance, or HVAC installation. But I knew how to use a furnace, a thermostat, and a fireplace. This particular exercise required me to test a new model of an electric heater. Once the briefing was done, I was assigned a heating specialist as the contact person to help me if I encountered any issues. Since such equipment needs an extended trial period, I was meant to have it all winter, record its performance, and note any concerns. While at it, I learned about the heating company giving out products for testing and reviews. I also dedicated time to understanding the difference between a heating technician and an HVAC professional. I intended to have a thorough understanding of the industry, the available products, and the kind of information gathered during the testing period.
