Low cost rentals for hurricane survivors

Everyone that lives on the coast knows that hurricanes can be extremely dangerous weather events.

Most of us realize that hurricanes and tropical weather can bring extensive and damaging wind, rain, hail, and storm surge.

Still, some people stay in the area long after others have evacuated. During the last major hurricane in the area, my family and I decided to evacuate, instead of stay with our home. It’s a good thing that we decided to leave, because half of our home was under water. My family and I would have been forced into the attic for shelter. It would have been a dire situation. When we were finally admitted back to the area, we found our home in complete ruins. We weren’t the only ones either. Most of the coastal neighborhoods were completely destroyed. 85% of the homes we’re a total loss. During the rebuilding process, many folks had to stay in temporary housing. Luckily, there is a lot of temporary housing inland. Many of the temporary furnished apartments offered places for hurricane survivors at low-cost rates. My family was displaced to a temporary furnished rental. There was a bed for each member of my family, kitchen utensils, bathroom supplies, and a television and sectional. These furnished rentals were normally used for business seminars or corporate housing, but they worked out well for all of the displaced residents. It took 14 months of sweat, blood, and tears to rebuild our family home. Some of our neighbors decided to leave the area for good. Sometimes I think about moving somewhere else, but I would miss the beach and the ocean surf.
