I have to say that this is the most comfortable winter I’ve spent in my little home.
That doesn’t mean that I’m comfortable with winter, but the efforts I put in this fall with winter prep on the house have made an immense difference. Being from the south, I don’t think that I’ll ever feel good about the winter. I so miss the nights of a quiet heat pump while in the winter. Where I come from, there is hardly any heating demand from the heat pump during winter. Of course, that all changed when we moved up here for my partner’s job. He’s from this region, but went to college in the south. We met each other in college and after graduating, he stayed down here and got a job. I sincerely thought we would live for all our lives down south. But when he was given an awesome promotion that also sent him back to his home city, he wanted to explore it. Since I work from home, I can work anywhere and of course I agreed to support his decision. But I suppose I underestimated just how brutal these winters can be. The house we ended up buying came with a brand new gas furnace along with the rest of the Heating and Air Conditioning equipment. But the house was older and we never got around to doing what we needed to do in order to get a good seal on the house. I finally did that this year and it has made an incredible difference. The heating costs are down almost 25 percent. That’s awesome in its own right, but the comfort we are enjoying is through the roof. Our little house is now like a little cocoon of warmth and coziness this winter.
