Once a gymnast always a gymnast

There is only one part of my body that tumbling doesn’t touch and as I get older, it becomes more prominent.

My parents first noticed my potential for gymnastics when I was only five years old. They took me to a gym where they could help to nurture my natural talents. I was going to dance classes three times a week and doing weight and personal training three times a week. I had one day for my parents schedules. I continued this training right up through early elementary school and then I started competing. I was on the state championship gymnastics team by the time I was twelve. My training only intensified as I got older. Right through college I continued competing on the college gymnastics team and then I went to nationals. Even now that I am a wife and mother, I am still doing gymnastics as a way to keep in shape. I do a lot of tumbling because of the benefits it gives. Back handsprings work out my shoulders, arms and thighs. Walkovers help my balance and upper strength, while tucks take care of my legs and abs. Tumbling helps to keep most of the muscles in my body, taught and sound. There is only one part of my body that tumbling doesn’t touch and as I get older, it becomes more prominent. That is the inner part of my upper arm. I have started adding weight lifting to my routine. I’m hoping that with weight lifting, I won’t have those wings that old people seem to get. I am glad to have a personal trainer who is able to not just help to strengthen my body, but will help to keep any damage from happening that I haven’t already exposed my body to.
