I have been a gymnast since I was four years old. I had gymnastics three days a week as a child, that was bumped up to nearly everyday in high school. I tumbled at the college level for all four years of school. I am 25 now and have not given up my sport. I still do a tumbling based work out nearly everyday. For one, I love tumbling because I am good at it and I like heightening my skills. Number two is that it is a great work out. Most areas of my body get taken care of when tumbling. My shoulders, arms and thighs get a work out with back handsprings. Walkovers take a lot of balance and upper strength to hold. My legs and abs are taken care of when I do tucks. I have noticed that there is one area of my arm that gets no action. My inner arm, bicep area hardly gets to work. With tumbling, really the outside of my arm is highlighted. Since I am not competing anymore, there is no need to work on the skills everyday. I do the tumbling based work out five days a week and the remaining two is whatever I want to do. I want to be a more well rounded athlete. I want more cardio work and weight training on my inner arm. So I have contacted a health and wellness center and they hooked me up with a personal trainer. The personal trainer has worked with other athletes at my level and is excellent at not further injuring the damage that has been done to my body.
