Running your own company takes wisdom and intelligence. It also takes fantastic timing, and the ability to talk to people. It also takes a lot of paperwork, a lot of math, and a lot of money. On top of all that it takes tough work and sacrifice. If I knew all this when I started I would never have opened our own shop. Ignorance is bliss, as they say, so when I opened our shop to the public I had a lot of unrealistic expectations. I had our Heating and A/C certification, and a company license so I was ready, willing and able to start fielding calls. There were no calls, but, because I was a brand new Heating and A/C supplier and no a single had ever heard of myself and others before. Simply being able to do the Heating and A/C work didn’t mean that anyone would care! Before I could start repairing heating and cooling systems I had to find purchasers, so I turned to social media. After a few mornings of Facebook, Twitter, and setting up our own homepage, I started getting some phone calls asking about our Heating and A/C business. I still had no purchasers but at least people were starting to hear about me, and most of the interest I got was from other Heating and A/C businesss, a single of whom wanted to subcontract myself and others for another task he had. It’s all very complicated to explain, despite the fact that I started picking up Heating and A/C tasks from this other business. It was a way to make money, but it wasn’t helping myself and others build our own customer base for our Heating and A/C supplier.
