It’s easy to get over zealous with your air conditioner use

My wife and I recently decided to move across the country and uproot our lives in the process.

We were both tired of our old jobs and spent months looking for new positions in the same general area. For instance, if she found something in a specific city and state, I’d hone in on the area in my own job search. If I found something first instead, she’d do the same thing as me. Since we both generally work in the technology sector, this was a lot easier than I at first expected. We actually had our pick of several different cities once we had looked for three months straight. We decided to move down south to escape the cold winters up north. We were sick of the six months worth of coldness and gloom every year and were eager to experience a subtropical paradise. Unfortunately, finding a house or apartment to rent wasn’t easy. We had to deal with broken plumbing in one apartment and a caving in roof in a house before we decided to work with a property management company. The house they found for us is great, but I wish our electricity bills weren’t so high in the summer season. Even though we escaped the winter onslaught, we traded it for intense summers. We have to be careful about running the air conditioner so much. If we had all of the money in the world, we’d keep it down as low as 70 degrees in the house at all times. Even if we wanted to waste the money, it shortens the life of the air conditioner from running it like that. We set limits on our HVAC use and we try to stick to them.
