My wife and I attended a get together and I admit I screwed up.
After too much wine I began flirting with an lovely young lady, told some risque jokes, and our karaoke performance caused other get togethergoers to suggest I take voice lessons.
The next day our wife helped me with our hangover, served me supper in bed, and even was able to laugh at our actions of the previous evening. To show our appreciation, I headed out to the local flower shop to buy her some flowers… While there I found a booklet that described several types of love that humans experience. They all had Latin names; Brotherly love is called “Philia”. Mature love that develops over time is called “Pragma” or pragmatic. After our behavior at that get together, our wife showed me “Storge”, a love that requires one to sacrifice their self-interests and quickly forgive harmful actions. We all know about “Eros” or erotic love and “Mania”, obsessive love. “Philautia” is described as the love of self and “Ludos” is playful or childlike love. The third and highest type of love is “Agape”, where lovers dedicate their life to improving the lives of others. The only thing in our household that has Agape love is our Heating and A/C unit as it silently and without complaint has improved our life for several years. The only love I show back to it is Mania because I am obsessed with keeping it wipe and well serviced. I don’t even get jealous when a qualified Heating and A/C worker is giving it a twice-a-year tune-up or committing the most intimate acts with it like a new refrigerant charge or a duct cleaning and inspection. My wife uses another Latin term to describe our feelings with our Heating and A/C idea and that is “Insanis” or crazy!
