I recently moved into my first apartment with my husband.
Of course, you do not expect your first living space to be absolutely perfect.
We got what we could afford, which is definitely not on the higher end of things. When we moved in, we began to take note of all of the things that were broken or damaged. The cabinets were old and had a few nicks in them. The carpet was beginning to bubble in a few spots and the shower pipe was starting to pull out from the wall. All of which was to be expected in an affordable starter-apartment. What we did not expect was the problem with our furnace. We moved in mid-November and the weather here was beginning to get much colder. We soon found out that our HVAC equipment was not working. We put in a maintenance request to get our heating equipment fixed, but it took the apartment a while to respond. While we were waiting to hear about the furnace, we took a look at it ourselves. Neither I nor my husband are particularly handy with repairing that sort of thing, so we failed to find the issue. We spent several cold nights together before we decided to go get an electric heater to temporarily solve the problem. Eventually the maintenance man took a look and told us we needed a whole new HVAC system. Though it took them a while to contact an HVAC provider to get one installed, we are very glad to have our heating and cooling unit now. Those cold nights are no more and with summer coming soon, we’ll be grateful to have our air conditioning, as well.
