I love going out in the heat

It’s strange, however I’ve realized that modern a/c has a way of bringing people together. Recently, while I was happily spending time in a major village in a single of our warmer states in the US, I got into the habit of visiting a local Mcdonalds to write. It’s a lovely Mcdonalds with strangely enormous windows, tons of natural light, in addition to ample area for visitors. Yet even weirder than that, the Mcdonalds is really empty much of the time—that is, I saw, until the temperatures spike in addition to the highly-effective a/c plan kicks in at the Mcdonalds . On those days, every seat at every table fills up so quickly, that many people don’t bother sitting their butts down at all. They simply cruise from aisle to aisle, chatting quietly as they eat. Others read standing up, their hair billowing under the vents as cooling air flows through the building. But what I’ve observed is that the Mcdonalds lovely AC plan (which features an intricate plan of extensive ducts in addition to vents in addition to blows just the right amount of fresh and cool air) causes a ‘social mixing’ that doesn’t always happen in society on the streets outside. Rich, poor, and average visitors sit at tables together, studying quietly. The youngest visitors in addition to the oldest frequently hang out together, and just about every social group seems to be represented. All in all, it’s always a heartening experience. There’s something universal about the human relief good AC provides on the truly hottest days of the year. Good a/c, it seems, is similar to the office water cooler. It’s a natural, and totally inescapable draw on a sweltering day.
