I was stunned to see an ad in the paper for an HVAC supplier.
It appeared that this supplier was holding a brand new campaign for HVAC technicians.
Their advertisement expressed interest in female HVAC specialists. I thought it was a joke at first, so I couldn’t keep from calling about it. When I was nineteen I had taken the HVAC certification course and obviously passed with flying colors. I graduated at the top of the class. After I got the certification, I spent months trying to find a place to work. Apparently, no one wanted to hire a 5’3” petite brunette to work on gas furnaces plus air conditioning units. I grew up with a bunch of brothers, so if I wanted to do anything fun, I had to keep up with them. I had no concern getting dirty since all of us used to play football in the dirt. Older guys couldn’t comprehend this plus most of them thought there was something wrong with me being an HVAC specialist. When the phone was answered, I said that I was calling about their ad in the paper. I was given a time plus date for an interview plus I was told to bring my certification plus university transcripts. I couldn’t believe it was that easy. After arriving at the HVAC supplier, things abruptly got clear. Everyone who was now working for them was a female. The supplier was trying to hire nothing but females so they could work without getting harassed.
