Allergies have had some effect on me throughout my life.
Mostly, it was only when certain grasses or trees flowered.
Cats could also set me off if I got fur anywhere near my face. But, that was really about it. I always treated these maladies with OTC medicine and just kept on moving. That was until about six months ago. It started with congestion I could never really get rid of. It would get better then it would get worse. A few months of this began to really wear me down so, I went to the doctor. I am not much of a going to the doctor person. First, I freeze because the HVAC is always set so low. But really, I just get a bit freaked out at the doctor’s office. He put me on some prescription medicine that did improve my situation but I could never fully be over the symptoms. I went back to the doctor and we ended up having a very enlightening chat. He asked a bunch of questions about the stuff I came into contact with. He also asked me if our home had ever had the HVAC duct work cleaned. The doctor explained how dirty air ducts can work against the immune system and wreak havoc on the respiratory system. I was shocked. The air ducts were the last thing I ever would have guessed could be the cause of my problem. Our HVAC company made us an appointment with a ductwork cleaning crew. Those guys were in and out within 5 hours. They completely cleaned every square inch of the ductwork. And now, I am breathing just fine!
