The last 66 years of my life have all included butt whipping winters.
The part of the country I was raised and lived my adult life in had some brutally tough winter conditions.
It was crazy. But, my dad was a “he man” type and forced me to endure the conditions because it would build character or something. I’m still a bit bitter when I would be comfortable inside the HVAC and he would force me outside to shovel for an hour. It did not build character. However, those experiences built a hatred of winter inside me. As an adult, I still hated the winter. But, I married a local girl, had a local career and there was family to consider. So, I stuck it out and dealt with one furnace churning winter after another. Well, that has all ended for me. It is with great relief, excitement and slight anxiety that I embrace a new chapter in my life. I am moving south and leaving all the reminders of winter behind me. There will be no more HVAC furnaces, shovels, ice melt or even a winter coat in my life anymore. I am ready to deal with the heat during the summer as I have purchased a small place that has the latest and greatest heat pump. The summers get really hot. But, I’ll take that heat over 6 months of cold any time. The rest of the year is perfect. I mean just perfect weather with sunshine and great temperatures. I’d say I’m overdue.
