I forgot to switch cooling to heating on a/c unit

I left the a/c running last night and that was apparently a big mistake.

Yesterday, it was legitimately hot in my house.

Well, technically, it was also legitimately moderate outside of my house, but since I am mainly focused on the temperature inside of my own home, that is what the two of us are going to focus on. Right now, the two of us are stuck in the limbo space of springtime when you never know which HVAC unit you are going to need to keep your house comfortable. However, for the most part, we have been safe by keeping our oil furnace on. The hot temperatures while I was in the day don’t get hot enough to justify the use of the central a/c and the cold temperatures at night time are cold enough to require the oil furnace. However, yesterday was an exception to the rule. The hot temperatures outside were legitimately blazing and I began to sweat inside my house. Rather than deal with the temperature like an adult, I decided to turn on the central air conditioning. The central a/c instantly began cooling the house and it felt nice. However, I didn’t realize how cold it was going to get last night and I didn’t remember to turn the central a/c off when I went to bed. When I woke up this afternoon, my house was cold. Thankfully, my room was still warmer because of how many blankets I use, but my children’s room was cold without the heating unit running, and maybe I should wait to turn on the central a/c until it is warmer while I was in the night too.
